Is Emotional Management In The Workplace Just A Fashion?

Who doesn't want to work for a boss who is considerate, self-conscious, sociable and energetic? And which board does not want their CEO?

Management team

That's all the better - all these EQ traits? This is very simple, isn't it?

The following are four reasons why we do not think EQ is an effective leadership standard or a successful business predictor.

A single size leader is not suitable for all organizations.

Companies are not run by one person; they are operated by dynamic administrative teams, and the shortcomings of one executive are supplemented by the advantages of others.

And they have managers below.

This is still a relatively closed system, but it is not closed to search alone alone.

In addition, different enterprises have different goals and leadership needs.

Like Steve Winnings, partner of KFY, "I asked clients if they were planning an evolution or revolution.

You need a strong leader to accomplish this revolution.

They said, "you can't let the whole company share your heart and soul."

It's quite easy to play games with the system.

Any regular psychologist will tell you that people who are not sociable and narcissism are very good at manipulating, and seem to be the kind of people they feel they need to get what they want.

Of course, their true colors of Mount Lu may eventually show up, but this may be a few years later, and it will not be obvious in the search process.

From personal experience, I can tell you in quantity and quality that it is easy to play games with the system.

I don't care if it's an experiment, a long interview process, a background survey, or any combination of similar things.

It's not that I'm a sociable person or something else.

I just said, this is related.

EQ

A well-known problem.

managerial style

It's not the main aspect of building a competitive company

Companies compete in complex global markets, more than ever before today.

The most important role of executives is to put forward the right direction, strategy and value proposition so that customers can buy their products and services on the competitors' products.

Of course, executives need to be able to sell ideas to stakeholders and senior executives, but there are more than one management style to do that.

In fact, there is a huge, complex and dynamic array of factors that will affect the operation results of any management team in any particular market.

Let's take a look at our example.

In terms of EQ, Whitman may be a little taller than Li Aike, but she has absolutely no experience in enterprise, information technology, hardware, software, complex supply chain or turnover adjustment.

Bartz's failure was not because she was an asshole, but because she was helpless at the beautiful new world of social media and mobile computing.

At the same time, Thompson may be a good man, but few people think he is the game changer that YAHOO needs to turn the tables.

EQ is not a precursor to success.

Finally, it may be the result of three other factors. There is no evidence that EQ is the prophet of successful leadership in business.

Interestingly, if you consider such great CEO as Andy Grof, Bill Gate and Steve Jobs, you will not find much about soft skills.

The same is true of Larry Paige of Google (GOOG) and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook.

Of course, there are plenty of counterexamples, but that's the key to the problem.

It is not clear that any specific management or leadership type, skill mix or intelligence - emotional or other factors - is coherent and meaningful.

When it comes to hiring or upgrading executives, there are a lot of factors to consider, especially experience, product expertise, market knowledge, corporate culture or DNA, company goals, and of course, the composition of the board and other parts of the management team.

If everything goes well, you want an executive who is emotionally easy to communicate.

Unfortunately, the real world has never been that simple.

None of the two executives is the same or even the same.

There is a compromise plan.

Of course, if you did find two other executives in other areas, be sure to make friends with those with higher EQ.

Just remember, he may play with you in applause.

No, you really can't win.
