The animal breeding industry is regulated by sound regulations. Many countries in the world have implemented extremely high standard animal welfare to ensure the healthy and sustainable development of the whole industry.
In the European Union, the Commission's 98 / 58 decree provides welfare standards for all farm animals, including farm fur animals.
93 / 119 decrees the slaughter of farm fur animals and other farm animals.
In addition, the European Commission adopted a proposal which was revised in 1999 to ensure the health and welfare of fur animals on all farms.
The proposal covers a wide range of aspects of raising animals, including feeding environment and regular inspections.
The provisions of this proposal have been adopted by the European fur Growers Association.
This proposal is legally binding in Germany and has been incorporated into the national legal system by Finland and Norway, and will be adopted by Denmark's national legislation in the near future.
Fur farming is also regulated by the same EU environmental law as in other agricultural areas.
In North America, fur animal breeders follow strict industry standards and comply with provincial, state, or national animal welfare and other regulations.
Veterinary inspection is regularly conducted according to industry standards and requirements of the province, state or country.
In the United States, after consulting veterinarians, animal scientists, wildlife biologists and breeders, the fur industry has set up a reward project that stipulates the criteria for humane breeding of fur animals, and awards the farms that meet the requirements after conducting independent inspections of farms.

Many fur producing countries have national authority or self regulatory industry inspection and reporting mechanisms, including veterinary or other official inspections.
For example, in Norway, the inspection mechanism includes 30 inspection teams to inspect fur farms in the whole country.
Each inspection team is equipped with a veterinarian.
The conditions of the farm are thoroughly checked and suggestions for improvement are made when necessary.
